Fav ankle weights & stability ball

I was discussing with friends the other day, that everytime I lay on my tummy on the (stupid) stability ball, I feel like I'm giving myself the Heimlich! Just feels like my innards are being smashed and it's uncomfortable to breathe. Anyone else have this?

Also, I've been using my one ankle weight (adjustable 10 lber) and switching it for Legs and Glutes. It's a pain. What ankle weights do you all like? I'd love to get those sandfilled ones but is it better to get adjustable. The sandfilled looks and feels much cooler! Do you think I'd ever need to go up past 3 pounds for the workout? Need some input here. Thanks, Alexis

Hi Alexis!
I have old 3lb sand filled weights I've had for 25 years (am I dating myself here?) Yikes! Anyway, they work just fine. I would love to have the adjustable, but there's nothing wrong with what I have! The other set I have are 5 lbs. I'm not ready to move to those yet!

Alexis I use my 5# Firm adjustable ankle weights with Legs & Glutes. I started with 2# in them, like Cathe uses, but it didn't feel like enough for me. They're killers when we get to the outer and inner thigh work, but I was used to them because of using them in the Firm tapes. As for that ball ... there are some moves I can't do on it for the same reasons - I feel like I'm constricting my breathing. I think it might be because my ball is a bit too big for me - I'm only 5'2", but I'm not entirely sure that's the reason. I just get off the ball and do the same move another way. Those biceps preacher curls in Supersets I simply cannot do on the ball. I just stand up and do them. I know it's not quite the same thing, but I feel like I can't take a full breath while bent over the ball, and my legs barely touch the ground when I am - LOL!! I think I should have gotten a smaller ball.

I'm cracking up envisioning you flailing on that ball like a fish out of water! I guess I'll get the adjustable weights since it seems I'll need something heavier eventually. I just think the sand ones look cool. How shallow is that? LOL Alexis

Oh yeah, I forgot to comment about the Heimlich manuever! I have felt I was close to death trying to lay on that ball as the ball is crushing the life out of me. It might as well have hands around my neck strangling me! So this morning I tried moving up a little higher on it and was a little more successful - meaning I still couldn't breathe, but the pain was less! I still had to complete my set off the ball - I guess this question should be posed to Cathe as they all seem to lay on the ball just fine!!!:+

So far, it appears that we are the only ones who have a problem with this :p ! Good idea to post to Cathe. Alexis

Oh I had this problem too. I think it was in Cardio and Weights or PUB. It was one of the stretches, where you're draped over the ball on your stomach. Cathe says "This one is one of our favorites" or something like it, but it feels to me like my artery that goes down my torso (that huge artery that goes right down the middle) is getting cut off.

I just press a little on the floor with my toes or feet until the pressure is off, because it doesn't matter where I roll, it still presses there. I think it doesn't do any harm to squirm out of an uncomfortable position. We are all built a little differently.
