Eat to Live - Joe Fuhrman

Hi,

I know some of you have recommended this book and I have just ordered it. I am just wondering about some more specifics about the book - what does it recommend that you eat, how many times per day do you eat, etc. If you have tried it, what has your experience been?

ETL steers you towards being a vegetarian. Mainly it is 3 meals a day but I always snacked on fruit during the first 6 weeks of the strict program. There is a 6 week menu for vegetarians and a 6 week menu for non-vegetarians. I had a great experience and have been following a mostly Vegan way of eating since May 2004 when I read this book!!...:)...Carole

What Carole said. :)

Yes, for some reason, he doesn't want you to eat between your big 3 meals. But I do anyway. He preaches over and over that "The salad is the main dish" - your diet should revolve around leafy green veggies. Then add in other veggies, and fruits, and beans, and whole grains and nuts. Yes, he is encouraging a vegetarian diet. I have been a vegetarian for 2 months as a result of reading this book and have lost over 12 pounds without even really trying. My cholesterol, which wasn't really high to begin with, is significantly lower. I feel great (not bloated all the time, and not hungry all the time either).

I really liked this book "Eat to Live". I tried it out for about 2 months. My favorite dish was the vegetarian chili. I ate lots of that, beans/legumes and lots of salad and fruit. I did lose weight from it.

I think it's a great way of eating but I just love lean meats and couldn't give that up permanently. Right now I am doing Body For Life for Women. I like it.

I might try the vegetarian thing again someday.

This sounds like an interesting book. I have considered becoming a vegetarian. I think I may have to check this book out.
Thanks for the info! This really is such a great forum!

Never being a big meat eater anyway, I decided to become a vegetarian about a month ago, so that part of the diet will not be a problem for me. That is part of the reason I decided to finally buy this book.

Thanks for all the opinions & info. I can't wait to get the book!

I read this book last summer..sound info. Most of the book is selling you on the premise and how it will positively impact your health.

I've already been a vegetarian for 7 years but have never gone vegan..I'm going to try to start eating vegan at home and vegetarian out (just because it's more difficult to be vegan on the run) and see if that makes any difference in my weight goals. :)
