Doing Weights and Slow Down weight loss

Cathlete
Hello, Cathe. I've noticed that since I started doing weights my weight loss has slowed down... as a matter of fact, I haven't lost any weight for about 1 month. I can see my body toning up though, but no weight loss.

Is there a reason why? Has this happened to you before?

I've been doing weights for about 1 1/2 months. My husband got me a jr. barbell set 25lbs to start with and I have dumbells ranging from 2 to 25 lbs.

I do 3 days aerobics and 3 day weights, alternating.

The weights I do are Supersets and Muscle Endurance and am doing today Upper Pyramid workout. Step aerobics I do StepBlast, Imax2, Rythmic step and Low Max.

Any advice?

I am only 8 lbs away from my goal!

Mommy,
I hope you don't mind my jumping in here, but I just wanted to suggest that at this point (only 8 pounds to go!!), with the recent addition of weights, you may be losing fat and gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, but it takes up less space, therefore you notice, as you say, you're body "toning up", but you don't notice weightloss on the scale.

Have you taken and measurements? Or are your clothes feeling looser? You may already be smaller and not even realize it!:)

Sounds to me like you are on the right track---

Hi, Mattea:

Thank you for your comments. I definetely see a noticeable difference in body size. I took some measurements a while ago, but misplaced them x( , so I am not sure how much in size I have changed. But I had some pants that I wear that I very loose on my legs and waist. I need to get me a smaller size for sure.

Also, I put on a skirt that I wore maybe about a month ago, and I was falling off my waist. So, yes, that must be it as far as muscle gain and not weight loss for now.

I mentioned to my husband about the muscle I was starting to see toning up but couldn't believe that it was happening already. I thought it would take longer, although I have a long way to go...

Thanks again for your reply. It makes me feel better! :)

Maria,

I love being the bearer of good news:) Sounds like you are making impressive progress. I think one reason that you may have noticed results so quickly is that you had already been doing so many things right, and the recent addition of the weights was exactly the "shock" that your body needed to kick things into high gear;)

Congratulations,
Mattea

Maria,

I've had a similar experience. My dh convinced me to stop obsessing about the scale and just look in the mirror. I gained about 2 pounds in the past month, but lost a half inch in my waist, and 1 inch in my hips. That is better, ya know.:)

I am actually very happy with my size, just want to continue to tone up, be strong and gain endurance. Too bad the scale doesn't reflect those kinds of gains. I told dh perhaps I need one of those body fat scales or something. I like to see good numbers.:) For now I will look at the tape measure more.

Congratulations on your progress!

Sandra

Thank you, Sandra!!! I am glad to hear I am not alone! And yes, I also feel good about the muscle gain!

Its a wonderful feeling!

Just wanted to add, that I was looking at Cathe's rotations and I see that she does weights like twice a week and sometimes weights and cardio and weights combined with 3 days of cardio only.

I think I am going to try that. Instead of doing weights alone 3 days a week with 3 days of cardio/aerobics, I am going to try only 2 days of weight workouts and 4 step/cardio.

Maybe this will help me loose weight again and still gain some muscle.

What do you think?
