Aquabells - anyone tried them?

Has anyone tried Aquabells (plastic dumbells that you fill with water) to maintain their exercise regime during periods of travel? They sound like a good idea, but I am hoping to get some practical feedback.

Hi, Ausmish - I bought a set of Aquabells once but in all honesty I never used them. Filling the bells, and the ankle cuffs, with water was a lot more clumsy a process than I'd anticipated, and the bells themselves were quite clumsy to manage in a lot of lifts. Mine certainly might be a minority report because I bought them several years ago and they are still apparently selling, but there you go.

For ease of packing, you might want to consider simply packing your Dynaband and bringing a few Cathe DVD's with band exercises on the road with you. I think I posted something somewhere once entitled "Cathe Workouts On The Road" which listed out all the Cathe floor cardio (no step required) and DVDs with band exercises.

AusMish,
I just bought a pair this summer for a month-long trip to Germany...But I managed to join a gym while there and never needed to use the Aquabells. Sold them on eBay last month.

They really don't take long to fill or empty, and the quality of the materials is good. However, it will take up quite a bit of space in your suitcase. I'd say get them if you are going to be traveling a lot and won't have access to a gym. The alternative of using the band is a great suggestion, too.

I've not used the aquabells, but have heard from others who have, that the trouble to fill them and empty them is just not worth it. The concept is good, but wouldn't you need several pairs of them to have a good weight workout?

I travel a lot and I do as suggested above, I take my resistance band with me. A good workout using a reistance band only is "Burn It Up" by Slim in 6. This one, plus some ab workout DVDs and the treadmill at the hotel, gets me through a lot of trips.

Thanks everyone for the tips. Looks like you've saved me some money and disappointment. I will look into your post Aquajock and the Burn It Up Workout.

You're all great!
