Anyone with a tattoo? Tipping question??

I am getting two tattoos that are going to cost $240.00. The owner of the shop is doing them for me. I'm not quite sure how to tip. Is it by percentage? I usually pay the people at the beauty salon 20%. Does that rule apply to tattoo artists as well??

Tipping...hmmm, good question. I have 3 tattoos and I can't remember what I tipped now, or how much they cost me. I would say go with the 20% (if you're happy with them, that is), or maybe someone here will know better.

Now, what are you getting?

Hello ladies!!

Long time no talk . I am getting an aquarian water bearer between my shoulder blades(custom designed). Since my parents are Middle Eastern, I am getting a hand of protection placed on my lower back. It has an "eye" in the top of it. It is very meaningful to me...Here's a picture of it:

You are too funny Marie! Yes, It is about the size of a deck of cards & has exactly the same detail. He is going to add color to the ivy, grapes and birds etc. The other tattoo will match in color too. I can't show a pic because it was an original drawing...I'll post pics in my picture trail when I get them.

Yes, Brandi I am going to do both on the same day. I am sure i'll be screaming by the time he's done.

No, i'm not on any rotation right now. I have been away on most weekends, so I have been doing a lot of total body weight workouts to save on time. I think i'm going to focus a lot more in the fall.

Have you had a tatoo before Aila?? I got mine about two years ago and I think I did tip 20%. It was cool at this particular place, cause you paid for the tatoo first in the reception area...then each artist had a little box in their cube, and you dropped the tip money in the box when you were done. I have a little Piglet(yeah, big suprise there, huh?)on my shoulder blade, and now I love the fact since now I live in Arizona my little guy will be showing almost all year round. And if you haven't had one, yeah it hurts, but kinda in a nice way(like a good DOMS). I am planning my next one...something in a celtic design around my ankle. My husband is not too thrilled....but I love tatoos! The more meanigful to you the better!! Good luck, Donna.

Hi Donna,

I never got a tattoo. Just a belly piercing . I wanted to wait until I was finished having children. Don't ask me why...just something I wanted to do..LOL. I figured that it was about 20% or so. Most of my friends that have them were very young when they got them and can't remember how much they tipped either. I am already addicted though. I am planning two more & I don't even have these two yet. Celtic designs are gorgeous! I love the ankle designs!
