Anyone else ordering VHS?

I was hoping to make the new Cathe's my first DVD purchase but it looks like that won't be happening for awhile :)-( ) and I'll be ordering the new series in VHS format. Anyone else ordering VHS, or have most of you switched to DVD? Just curious to see how many other "holdouts" like me are out there :).

LAST EDITED ON Sep-22-02 AT 05:37PM (Est)[p]I will probably order DVD's since the world is heading that way. I couldn't find a golf video I wanted on e-bay, do I'll have to go the DVD route. Now I have to find a player.

I'll probably be the last person in town to buy a DVD player! ;-) I just dread the thought of spending the money, and then wanting to replace all of my tapes...so for now and for the forseeable future, I'll be a holdout too!Now I just have to hope really hard that Cathe puts the "Terminator" workout on VHS too...

I bought VHS cuz it looks like we're going to hold out on the DVD thing for a while. Someone had posted before that there's a player that does both VHS and DVD so I at least feel I'll still get to use them. So what if I'm a bit behind the times! ;-) Susan

yes!

I actually prefer VHS for some things, like cardio videos. The good thing about DVDs are there's usually a menu that allows you to pick which section you want. So it's good for things like S&H. But it stinks sometimes because the DVD has to load and it's harder to fast-forward. So VHS still has benefits!

My husband just bought me a tv with a built in VHS player for my workout space. So I ordered VHS. I don't want to replace my 100 vhs videos now, no way!!

My husband keeps telling me that pretty soon there will be a way to record vhs tapes to dvd...so he says we can just record the vhs to dvd...guess that's what we'll do.

I'm glad I'm not alone :)! I too have alot of exercise tapes and can't see changing them over in the near future. Also, DH thinks I have enough fitness tapes as it is (silly man!) so the cost of the Intensity series in VHS is easier for him to accept :). Thanks!
Sandi

Hi Sandi! Your not alone! I too still have my VCR but after I ordered Ab Hits on DVD (the DVD is upstairs in my bedroom) I certainly can see why there's so much excitement in them. I'm going to have to cave in next year and purchase a DVD for my basement where I work out. I'll have both VCR & DVD players down there. I wouldn't want to purchase DVD's on tapes that I already have. Kathy

Just bought a DVD player & it sits on top of the VCR (yes, I too am one of the last tech holdouts). DH hooked up a box that only requires me to push a button to switch back & forth from VCR to DVD. I'm going to start buying DVDs only from now on since I'm sure VHS is going the way of the 8 track....but I'm keeping that VCR since I don't want to replace all my videos either. DVD's are now fairly reasonably priced & even though we know we'll have to replace it in several years (the format of DVD is changing) the chaptering is great! Incidentally DH (who was in the electronics business for many years) said that the VHS portion of the VHS/DVD combo machines tends to break much more than the DVD part so that's why we didn't go that route. I do think I'm going to buy a cheap "backup" VCR for my VHS tapes to use in the future when the machines aren't made anymore.

I'm ordering VHS also. I want a combo VHS/DVD player some day so I can use both without having to replace my VHS workouts, but money doesn't permit right now, and with Christmas around the corner, it'll be next year sometime at the earliest.
But with so many of us "VHS-ers" maybe we can talk Cathe into putting her Terminator workout on VHS! :)

One can hope! Cause I'd really hate to have to order it on DVD and then try and talk hubby into letting me use his "beloved" Playstation 2 to play it on. A divorce could follow!

Donna

Ditto for me too!!!
Hubby just built me a workout room and says "No Way!" to a DVD player for a long long while.
I'm also waiting for a combination DVD-VHS player but by the time I can afford it, there will probably be more improvements on it.????:D
So the VHS is not quite the dinasaur for me just yet.:D:D
I started a thread about the Terminator. Hopefully Cathe will consider it..:-jumpy

I don't like DVDs very much. They handle abuse well like VHS cassettes do. Everytime we rent one, there is a glitch in some sections of the movie. My bf works for a DVD and VHS replicating company. He says not to worry about being left behind. Most households do not have DVDs and he thinks that VHS cassetes will be around for along time. Mostly because of the abuse factor. You can leave a VHS tape in your hot car and throw it around. Then again, work out tapes are different than the Disney movie you are playing for you kids.

Sunset Beach...same as you

I have a built in VHS in my workout TV as well. I have no immediate plans to replace 130 fitness tapes, LOL. Dear me, I hope the world doesn't forget about us mid-ninety types.

I have Cathe's work outs on DVDs and the only reason I did that was because I live in London and thought that you could not play NTSC tapes on PAL video and TV.

I do think that the quality on DVD is better and will last longer than a tape (if you keep it well out harm's way). However, I don't see any advantages to having DVDs over VHS because I don't really mix and match my work outs - I do the whole tape from beginning to end. If you like to mix and match then it is definitely an improvement. Keeping DVDs is a little nerve racking because they are so fragile.

I also heard that SNM is thinking of phasing out VHS altogether in a few years. Let's hope those years are a long way away.

On the other hand, my concern with VHS is I listen to my tapes so many times they start to wear out - that wouldn't happen with a DVD, right?
