Any takers for a Summer Shape Up Check-in?

Cleo

Cathlete
I'm just getting back into exercising again after a 2-year hiatus, and was wondering if anyone out there is in a similar boat and wants to start a regular check-in?? I've noticed that a lot of people on this forum see better results with a little motivational support and accountability, and I REALLY want to get back into shape again!

FYI, my goals are to build strength, lose body fat, and really see some definition. My body is fairly muscular to begin with, but that nasty fat layer totally hides everything. My problem areas are my butt and thighs (and abs, but I know that Pilates and core work previously shaped them right up & I saw noticeable results pretty quickly.) I plan on incorporating mostly running, kickboxing, and circuit workouts for my cardio in order to work on that stubborn lower body.

I found a "smaller body rotation" on an earlier thread and think I'll give it a try (using PUB, PLB, L&G, KPC, and BC).

Anyone else out there want to join me??

Cleo :)

Cleo,

Where was that smaller body rotation? My goals sound very similar to yours, although I have been working out consistently for years. What's holding me back you ask? Can't seem to go a full day meeting my nutrition goals! I'm trying a new approach - rather than focusing on types of food, counting things (although I still monitor calories), I'm focusing more on the eating experience and listening to my body as to when to eat and when to stop. Don't know the impact on my body yet, but psychologically its nicer than thinking about my diet all day.

I used to check in on another thread, but those girls have far surpassed me - I got too busy to check in and fell off the wagon. But I'm not so busy now and motivated - I'll join your check-in!

Hi Cleo. I'd like to join you too. I have similiar goals too. I've gotten serious w/ my workouts, but I can't seem to stop eating at night. Maybe if I'm in a check in that will help.
I have the same exact "trouble spots" as you, and have seen a difference in myself but I've got a long way to go.
So count me in girlfriend.

Here's the link to the earlier thread:

I, too, have trouble not sabotaging my results with my eating choices. I've been trying to clean up the bad carbs and sugar, but I just can't let go of my bagels and the occasional sweets. }(

This is the rotation I plan on starting:

M - BC
T - PUB + PLB floorwork w/stability ball
W - interval running outside (2-3 miles)
R - L&G + abs (Pilates/core work)
F - PUB or CTX upper body
S - KPC + abs (Pilates or a segment from Ab Hits)
S - REST

I just bought the S&H series and MM, but I'm holding off on them because I want to try out my new L&G and stick with PUB for a little while. I remember bulking up in the legs when I did a lot of squats and heavy lifting, but I think I just didn't give it enough time to see the muscles "pack back down" or get rid of the fat layer on top. Seeing as I'll probably be wearing shorts and skirts most of the summer, I won't have to stress about my jeans getting tighter in that area :) (I hope!)

Hi ladies,

Kali, glad you are joining us! Eating at night is my problem. Its like I can make it through the day, but my willpower is gradually weakening. I often make it to within 30 minutes of bedtime and start snacking. Isn't that sad?

Ok Cleo, I think I'll do what you are doing and tell you about my plan. I had been following Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle for nutrition and would really like to get back to it (its got the most detailed advice I've ever seen). Of course, its success depends heavily on not eating refined sugar, and wouldntcha know I just love that stuff?

If terms of working out, I am going to the beach in 2 weeks, and have somewhat limited time, so here's my rotation until that time:

THis week:
Boot Camp, MIC, Legs and Glutes, Circuit Max, Power Hour, Imax 2

Next week: Off, MM, Stepfit, CTX UB, Imax1, Off, Boot Camp

Intense and probably unreasonable, but I'll try to set my sights high!

Ok. I am trying out doing Cardio in the AM and Weights in the PM followed by a short cardio. So here is my rotation for this week and probably next.

Mon- AM KPC-abs- PM Legs&Shoulders
Tue- LowMax- Triceps&Biceps
Wed- Step Blast- Core Max1
Thu- Cardio&Weights
Fri- Rhythmic Step- PLB
Sat- Power Hour - Chest&Back
Sun- Off

I just pick abs from different workouts. I will definatley follow the AM rotation. PM is subject to change depending on circumstances, endurance etc.
I am really going to try to not eat after 7pm. This is a major factor for me and weight loss. (As it is w/ most of the population:p ) I'm also watching sugar, starch and fat.
I'm psyched now because if I have to check in maybe I'll stick to it. Good luck.

Kali & FFD:

I just got home from work and am on my way to conquer Bootcamp. I finally got a mini step, so I'm excited to try it (not too sure if my muscles are excited, but I'll try!)

Wish me luck!! :D }(

Oh my God. I just did L&G's and 1st segment from Step Blast. I think L&G's is the longest workout I've ever done. When I was doing Step Blast I felt like I was doing it in slow motion. But it really kept me from getting tight. I even feel like my fingers are typing in slow motion!
I was looking at my rotation schedule and I just had to get L&G's out of my way. Now I feel better. But talk to me in the morning.;( I may be crying to you guys.
Cleo, let me know how you made out w/ the new high step and that dreaded BC.}(
FFD let us know how you made out today. Remember girls no pain no gain.}(
Kali

I'll tell you how I made out - Great! It was my day off! Ha Ha! (Did MIS yesterday so I always have a day off after it). Eating was fairly good. I am also going to try to not eat after dinner - since I am in bed at around midnight, this will be after 8:00. I think if I could conquer that I'd be doing great, since that's the period of time when my snack attack hits. If I start talking myself into food before bedtime, I'm going to run and brush my teeth. If the urge is really compelling, I'll go ahead and go to bed.

Kali, your rotation kills me! YIKES!!! I have L&G coming up this week too. Tomorrow morning I will do Boot Camp or Imax 2, depending on soreness and how awake I feel.

Cleo - How did you like Boot Camp? Its really tough, huh? Some of the cardio segments are crazy! I think after beach, I'm going to concentrate on circuit workouts, incorporating at least 2 per week into my rotation. They exhaust me like no other, and I think will be the shock to my system I need!

You guys are scaring me about L&G! (I haven't tried it yet)

Anyway, BC went fairly well (LOVE that kickboxing!), although the cardio cycles kicked my butt (I'm not ashamed to say that I had to take several rest breaks).

I like the high step, but I only ordered a 12", and I noticed that a lot of the workouts have it set up at 14 or even 16--so I'm going to order two more risers.

Tomorrow is supposed to be PUB (& PLB floorwork), but it might be a rest day seeing as grades are due Wed and I'm staring at several stacks of essays to get through before then }( But . . .I really like PUB, so it might be a good distraction - we shall see. . .

Get your rest and protein ladies!!

Cleo :)

Good morning girls. I don't feel too bad this AM. A little tight and my butt muscles are sore}( ! I have LowMax on my rotation so I'm going to stick with the cardio premix. I don't want to over do it yet.
DH told me to go get my barbell today so I am like YAY!:7 I've been using dumbells for everything. We're also getting my 7 yr.old Daniel a new bike. So that should be exciting. He doesn't have a clue. He'll probably want Batman action figures instead and he'll ruin the whole experience for his Dad and I.;( Oh well. We're used to it already.
Oh I also made it thru night #2 of no eating after 7pm.:7 Hope you guys did too! If not we try again tonight. I've read if the calories your eating at night are within your daily need, it doesn't matter. But IMHO it makes a difference if you don't eat a few hours before bed.
Ok. Have a great day. Talk to you later.
Love ya's, Kali:)
P.S. Legs & Glutes is awesome! It just seems sooo long to me. Although any entire leg wo seems long to me. My legs need the most work so that's probably why I feel that way. x(

Hello ladies!

Unfortunately, today will have to be my rest day since I've just finished doing my grades and am exhausted.:( Plus, I'm pretty sore in all the right places after BC yesterday and didn't think tackling PUB would be the best idea. I think I'll pick up with PUB tomorrow and tack on a shorter interval run at the end (gotta love those make-up workouts!!!) }(

Seriously though, I'd forgotten why I used to love BC so much - all the right spots in my butt and thighs are talking to me today and I'm VERY aware of my obliques again!!! DH and I are going to the beach with some friends for a week in August, and I want to look great in my bikini before we get there! I've been doing somewhat better with the clean eating, but it's tough to always remember to keep healthy foods on hand for snacks, etc. As far as curbing the late night munchies goes, I've found that strawberries and/or grapes will satisfy my sweet tooth without sacrificing my goals (what happens when I run out of fruit is another story . . .) :9

Kali, I know what you mean about new toys (gear) - we moved last year and somehow lost/misplaced(??) parts of our weight set (plus they were getting pretty beat up). So I was pretty excited to stretch ye olde plastic Visa and replace everything. I wanted a smaller barbell like Cathe, but DH wanted an Olympic set and we ended up getting both (having 2 barbells really makes it easier when Cathe starts changing weights and I don't have to really fiddle with it!)

FFD, how's your workout going?

Keep pumpin, girls!
Cleo;)

Morning ladies! Sorry for not checking in yesterday, I was at work for a long time. But I did manage to accomplish L&G last night (yes, I was supposed to do Bootcamp but my stomach hurt a bit and terminator climbers are tough enough on their own!). I haven't done L&G in a long time, but I LOVE it!

Eating was so so. I think I need to count yesterday as a higher calorie cheat day, which is fine since the days before it were better. I've read having a higher calorie day here and there is good for preventing starvation mode.

Sounds like you ladies are doing awesome, and welcome Wendy! I'm jealous of your purchases of new workout equipment. I'm pretty much set when it comes to that, although I could use a new barbell. I'll just have to settle for new workout clothes here and there!

Today will either be Bootcamp or Imax 2. I'm not feeling terribly sore yet, but I bet I will soon. Talk to ya later!

Welcome Wendy! Glad you're here. This is a great way to stay motivated I'm finding.
I did Step Blast &Tri's&Bi's this AM. Going to do some CleanMax and GardenMax shortly.
I ate a salad and then a "Recess peanut butter"ice cream bar at 10 pm!!! But I did good all day so I'm not going to beat myself up over that. I'm just learning how to eat right.
I've changed my mind about the barbell. I went back thru old posts and decided to hold off and keep using my dumbbells for now. I'm thinking of getting a few new DVD's instead. Plus I have no where to put the damm barbell.
I did get a stability ball tho. I like how you use all those muscles when your trying to balance. Maybe I'll do CoreMax later and try it out. If not today tomorrow.
Have a good day girls!

Kali:D

Hi girls

I think this check in is just what I need to motivate myself. I took about 1 1/2 off from working out. I just finished my first year of law school and a year of sitting at a desk all day and night studying (along with lots of munching on snacks) has left me with a closet filled with a lot of clothes that do not fit.
I am starting the weightloss rotation from January. I told myself I am not buying the hardcore series until I fit back into those clothes.

I did SJP this morning and discovered how much strength I lost in my legs and abs. Like Cleo, my abs usually tone up pretty quickly for me, but I think I have a long way to go with my legs. I wear pants to work (internship with a judge) so hopefully my legs won't bulk up too much.
There is a bag of Oreos in my kitchen today and they are really testing my willpower!

Have a great day
Jessica

Glad you decided to join us Jessica. I have Oreos (double stuff yet)here too. I'm keeping away from them though. (for the time being anyhow)lol.
Wendy your son is beautiful! Congratulations!
Kali

Jessica,

The January rotation is AWESOME! And really works! I did it and was drinking lots of water also (that might have had something to do with it) and really noticed changes in my body. Its a toughie though.

I did Imax 2 yesterday and made it through interval 8 without stopping it! This is a personal best for me. I was ecstatic!

I think today I will do Power Hour and take tomorrow off. Saturday and Sunday are Bootcamp and MIC + Abs. Yikes.

Eating - heh. Went to dinner with a friend last night at 7:30 (yes, an entire dinner out after 7:00!). Only a couple pieces of bread with olive oil and a caesar salad with shrimp and almost no dressing. Oh yeah, and some yummy croutons and half and order of calamari. And wine. Yes, not the best night! Today promises to be better. Lets see if I can keep the promise!

Good luck today ladies!

Way to go w/Imax FFD! I did C&W's today. Imax2 tomorrow. Oh calamari sounds wonderful.
I weighed myself this AM and I have lost 3 lbs!:7 Last time I weighed in was May26. I didn't think I'd lost anything yet.

I'm starting guitar lessons today! Wish me luck. I have no idea what I'm doing.:p

Have a great day girls! Keep on keepin' on!
