Alpha Omega Check-In *AUGUST*

“You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.” (Psalm 119:114)

Jen, I completely understand how you feel about losing 2 friends. I broke ties with one of my girlfriends almost 2 years ago. It was the right thing to do because we were just on completely different paths, hers being an unhealthy one. Anyway, I still miss her friendship and know how it hurts! Even though I tried speaking with her about things going on in her life, she just didn't want to hear it and became very angry with me. I hope you are enjoying your vacation!! I'm always keeping your job prospects in prayer! :)

Iris, what you said about not going to your company picnic is not terrible! When I was working at my firm I opted more than once to skip the Christmas party. Like you said, there was no need to mingle outside of work.

I know those weights you are talking about, the ones you can add on to the end of your dumbells, I used to use them at the gym. I can't seem to find them in stores though. I tried 3 different stores so far and can't find the weights I need. I think I'll try Dick's Sporting Goods next.

I am hoping ChaLEAN Extreme doesn't bulk me up because I really don't like that look on me, neither does my husband! :p I guess only time will tell because I've never lifted really heavy, or to failure like this, so we'll see! I DID get my DVD's yesterday!! :) :D I was having so much fun previewing them!! I am so ready to get started on Monday!

Are you enjoying the beach today, or did you decide to stay home?

Cathy, how are you doing?

No workouts for me this weekend, aside from some stretching. This morning my husband and I had breakfast with my sister (my BIL had to work). After that my sister and I bought a few things at Walmart and then got a pedicure. It felt so good to have someone do my feet! I usually do them myself. Afterwards she came back to the house to check out our new dining room, and then headed home. It's been a nice day so far! I may head to the mall later to continue my search for weights.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! :D

Iirs, I forgot to mention in my first post how super excited I am most of all that CLX came with a copy of Turbo Jam's Fat Blaster!!! I think it was on the same DVD as Burn Intervals or Burn it Off? I've been thinking of getting that workout, now I don't have too! I just love Turbo Jam!! :D

Today, I just got done viewing Cathe on her roadtrip during a workout!! How cool. Livestream broadcast off of Facebook.
Christine, thank you for your prayers, your understanding, and your postings to create our threads.
Iris, I skip many social events at work and I agree with you and Christine about mingling.
Cathy, where are you

Hello Ladies.

Happy Saturday. It's beautiful outdoors today. I just snock in a little posting break while inside making some sauce for sausages my husband's making on the grill :)

Christine my daughter and I went for pedicures today too. I try to do that at least once a month. I've since gotten spoiled, and hate to do my own, and they never look as good as they do when I get them done at the salon. Did a little gardening too, and now I'm just outdoors relaxing and enjoying the sun.

I did Boost your Metabolism Results workout with Tracey staehle. I am still sore from this week's workouts, and may end up taking another rest day tomorrow. I have to be strong enough for CLX on Monday, lol. Christine, I don't think it will bulk you up, but if you're afraid it will, then just go lighter with the weights. I've never seen pace mates in the stores. I bought mine online: http://www.paceweights.com/products/index.htm. I just bought the 9 pack in a box. They are kind of expensive when you add in the shipping. Sometimes I'll also grab say a 10 & 2 lb. DB to make 12, and so on, but they are not as comfortable on the hands. That is great that you got FatBlaster in your package. I have to see which others you may like so I can pass them along to you, or feel free to ask if I have any particular ones.

Jen, I'll keep you in my prayers :)

Ok, I'm heading back outside with hubby now. Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies.

whew!, busy 2 days. had the grandkids yesterday, rode horses all friday morning. so, no work out yesterday. today i did disc 18, and a 30 m firm cardio. then helped give a bridal shower this afternoon. just got home and i am wore out!!!! gonna chill the rest of the day, i think. ya'll have a great rest of the weekend.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (James 1:22)

Okay, I was typing my post and got halfway through and my computer booted me out of what I was doing!! Oh well, here I go again..... lol

Cathy, sounds like you have been busy! I hope you got the rest you deserved last night! Who did you through a bridal shower for?

Iris, the weather sure was beautiful yesterday! It's nice that you got to relax and enjoy it! Your BBQ sounds yummy!!

I guess I will try and lift as heavy as I can with CLX and see what it does to my body. I may go lighter with my legs though. If I do start getting bulky, then I'll just lower my weights. I read on Chalean's blog that she does recommend extra cardio on the weight training days to help with the "leaning" process.

Thanks for the link to the pace mates! I will check it out. My husband's cousin owns a fitness/nutrition store in Albany so he left him a message about getting a deal for me on power blocks. My husband has them and I they're a bit awkward for me to hold, but the version they make for women are smaller. We'll see.

Hi Jen, how is your weekend going?

Have a great weekend! :)

Hello Ladies,

After a beautiful day, it's rainy and gloomy today. Looks like it'll be an indoors kind of day.

Christine, I had never heard of Powerblocks. Of course I did a quick search to see what they were, lol. I know those Selectech's Chalean uses look very awkward to me. I've heard her say I am using 12's, and they look like she's holding 50, lol.

I'm taking another rest day today. I seem to have developed some strange pain in my back and groin area. I may have pulled something yesterday when I was weeding out the garden, but I should be fine and good to go tomorrow, as long as I rest up today.

I'm glad to hear Chalean recommends added cardio with the weights, because I'm pretty much set on taking the cardio portion of the 30/30 classes. We'll see how the week goes :)

Jen, I checked a little of the live broadcasting too. The sound was bad, but it was great to see what was going on live. It looks like they were having a blast :)

Hi Cathy, it's good to hear from you. You have been busy :)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies.

“The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)

Iris, how are you feeling today? Do you still have pain in your back/groin? I hope you feel better and are ready to get started with CLX today! ;) I did the first workout, but I'll talk about it in another post because it will be kind of long and I don't want to mix it in with personals. Chalene's weights DO look awkward! Ha ha, I was thinking the same thing as you, that she looks like she's lifting 50lbs, when it's really only 12 or 15. When I first saw her weights (before she said how much she was holding), I thought man, I shouldn't have bought this system, LOL. The powerblocks for women are smaller than the ones for men, so hopefully they won't be as awkward. Although we haven't heard back from his cousin yet, so we'll see.

Jen, how is your vacation going? I hope you are enjoying yourself!

Cathy, I hope you had a nice, restful night after your busy weekend!

Today's workout was CLX Burn Circuit 1, Turbo Jam Standing Abs, and Slim & Limber. I also started Week 4 of my C25K run. It was TOUGH!! I had to run 3 minutes/walk 90 seconds/run 5 minutes/walk 2.5 minutes, then repeat. It was really tough today, especially the second 5 minute run, but I made it, hoorah!! :D

Have a great day ladies!

Okay Iris, about CLX.....

Hmm, I'm not so sure I'm loving it, LOL. I know I have to give it time, but I felt kind of akward doing some of the moves. The biggest thing that bothered me is that I can't follow someone along with the reps. I really like knowing how many I need to do and then follow the instructor accordingly (like Cathe's weight work). It was tough for me to keep my own pace because I was always wondering "am I going too fast? too slow?" Chalene doesn't do most of the reps, she's walking around, and it seems the camera doesn't stay on one person long enough for me to follow them. Although I guess the point is for me to do what I can do, not follow them, right? I don't really like that though. :( It's like P90X, but I felt that P90X gave me time to complete what I could do, whereas the time in CLX goes so fast that once or twice I had like 3 reps left (because I was going slow like she said to do) and they were ready to move on to the next exercise already! *sigh*

The other thing is that my shoulders are weak, so for the posterior flys I only used 5lbs. That was actually too heavy for me to get the full muscle contraction but I knew if I dropped to my 3lbs, I wouldn't reach failure by 12 reps. I actually didn't reach failure at all by the 12th rep on any exercise but I knew if I went any higher in weights, I would be straining other muscles to lift.

Help!! ha ha How did you make out? I am so not used to lifting heavy, I guess that's the problem. Maybe I shouldn't worry about failure right now? I don't want to strain myself by trying to go higher in weights to reach failure.

Here are the weights I used (don't laugh :p):

Sumo Squat w/Hip Raise - 10lbs
Lunge w/Posterior Fly - 5lbs
Push Up w/Leg Lift (I was proud here because I did them all on my toes!!)
Dead lift w/Posterior Fly- 5lbs
Lunge w/Core Rotation - 10lbs (this one killed my legs!)
Bench Press w/Leg Lower - 10 lbs
Squat w/Side Bend - 10lbs
Forward Lunge w/Posterior Fly - 5lbs
Chest Fly w/Hip Lift- 8lbs

What do you think?

I guess I will see how I feel tomorrow!

hi all, sorry to be awol. had an energy meltdown yesterday. was so tired i could barely move. i get those days occasionally. i suppose it is old age. i have no idea why it happens. but, it is not fun. i'm so exhausted i can't even think. very strange. still a bit tired today. but, i did do disc 20, legs. i did not enjoy it too much though cuz i was so tired, but i got thru it. may need to rest extra today, too. see how i feel later.
cathy

iris, i keep forgetting where you live? it i still over 100 here. NASTY!!! we have now set a record for the summer w/the most 100' days. isn't that nice. and, i wonder why i'm wore out? the heat alone will kill ya. thank the LORD that we can afford AC.

Hello Friends,
First day of vacation, I visited places I haven't been in awhile like where I used to live when I was married. I visited my neighbor, almost 90 I believe, she still lives on her own and is quite active. Tonight, I start my home projects and homework. Please pray that the dream stays alive and becomes reality for me. Thanks.

Hello Ladies,

Oh my, let's see if I can post, I am exhausted! LOL.

Cathy I can see how you had a physical meltdown. Sometimes that happens after working out intensely for days on end. I have those too. I live in NJ, and we haven't had much a summer here. That's just my opinion. I can't even imagine 100 degree weather.

Jen, sounds like your vacation is off to a good start :)

Christine, I was dying to read about your CLX experience and checked a couple of times during the day looking for it. I wanted to know what I might be in for when I got home, lol. I can understand your uncertainty, and I admit I didn't love it either. For me, the trick was just knowing that I should go for reps of 10-12. I aimed for 12. I took a look at the screen to see how the exercise was done, and then I just focused on myself using my mirror for form. The weights portion felt kind of light to me, but when you factor in the lower body work, it seems to add up quickly. The thing I did like about the workouts was that it was short. Don't get me wrong, I was dripping in sweat, but looking at the speadsheet and knowing that there are only a few exercises to get through, it was just very doable.

Here are my stats, using your post, lol. and by the way, you did great, I didn't go much heavier than you.

Sumo Squat w/Hip Raise - 10lbs
Lunge w/Posterior Fly - 8lbs
Push Up w/Leg Lift (I only did 4 on my toes, the rest on my knees)
Dead lift w/Posterior Fly- 8lbs
Lunge w/Core Rotation - 10lbs (this one is a killer!)
Bench Press w/Leg Lower - 12 lbs
Squat w/Side Bend - 10lbs
Forward Lunge w/Posterior Fly - 8lbs (Anything with a lunge is challenging for me)
Chest Fly w/Hip Lift- 10lbs

The first Extreme set, I used 20's
2nd Extreme set, I used 8's

Well, I went a bit Extreme today, and after my CLX workout, I headed to the gym. I walked about 10 Minutes on the TM on 4.2 as a warm-up. Then I took the 30/30 class. I originally planned on taking only the cardio portion, but ended up staying the whole hour. More posterior delt flies, lol. My legs are going to be wobbly tomorrow. I am feeling soo tired now, and I bet I will be sore tomorrow.

Have a great night ladies.

iris, are you gonna have a meltdown tomorrow after that workout? do you ever have a day like that? i really hate it. i want to work hard every day. i tend to be an over-achiever.:)

Your workouts all sound great!! You are all inspiring me to do something like that this week!!!

Cathy, I do have the habit of pushing and pushing and then end up having a meltdown. I am really going to try to have some self control with my current rotation, and not over do it. Sometimes that's easier said than done with me, lol. You sound like you like to hit your workouts hard too :) I must say we're not bad for women of our age, lol.

Jen, for me working out has become such a lifestyle, that if I don't work out I just feel really blah. At most I can go a few days without working out, and that's when I'm either on vacation, or sidelined with an injury. My Husband and kids make comments about it all the time. They say I go to the extreme, but back when my sons were little, I was such a couch potato, and consequently, I had barely any energy to do things with them. My sister used to take them out all the time, because I didn't have a desire to do much of anything. That sounds depressing, but ever since I got into exercising, I am much more active. My daughter reaps the benefits of that now, as I am able to do a lot more with her than I ever did with my boys.

Your husband and kids should try to keep up with your energy level, they would think differently about working out. GOD created us to have a full and abundant life, I believe that involves having the energy to do it. I hope your husband is proud of you that you take such good care of yourself.

hi ladies
did the firm's cardio core fusion (55m). that is really a good workout. i was dripping sweat everywhere. and then did alison's piliates. felt good after that tough cardio.
well, got a class to teach tonite. so gotta go get prepared. ttyl, cathy

“This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:2-3)

Cathy, what classes do you teach? I'm sorry if you told us and I forgot! I used to over achieve with my workouts too, but I just can't do it anymore. As hard as I might try, my body hits the wall within a week! I've actually learned that these days less is more for me.

Iris, I'm sorry but I don't have a Chalean review for you today!! I was just to sore and exhausted to even attempt one of her HIIT workouts. You'll have to let me know your review if you do one of her cardio workouts tonight! How are you feeling today?? My shoulder is feeling better, hooray! I am just sooooooooo sore!! Your story about getting into exercise is very inspiring! Good for you for taking control of your health! :) Exercise has definitely been a way of life for me too, since I was about 15 yrs old. But like I mentioned before, I can over-do it too. I'm only recently learning to slow down and still getting results! :D (My biggest fear was always slowing down & gaining!) Hence, no hard core workout today, lol. BTW, I agree with you in that CLX really gets the legs big time!!

Jen, I'm so glad you are enjoying your vacation! How are your house projects coming along? That's great that your former neighbor still gets around on her own! My grandma is going to be 93 this year and she is still independent! She gets out and goes shopping almost daily. I think at that age it's good to get out and about if you still can physically, I think it keeps them young!

Today's "workout" was a 3 mile walk with my dog, and a 60 minute stretch with "Cool it Off". I really needed and enjoyed that stretch!! I could barely even finish my walk today. CLX combined with running really kicked my butt yesterday! My mind/body connection was off today because I wanted to keep walking, but my body was like NO WAY! Something as simple as walking was really tough for me today! I had jello legs by the time we got back to the car. I feel like a wimp! HA! :p

Hope everyone is having a great day!
