AB Wheel

I've had an ab wheel for years and years. I don't think I paid over $5 for it. PLEASE don't pay anything close to $18.99. Mine came from Wal-Mart I think.

I've never used it regularly, so can't give you any info on results. I can tell you that it is very rough on the back. If you have any lower back issues, stay away!

i had one years ago. no matter what i tried to do i felt it way to much in my back. i pinched a nerve and that was the end of that. I do much better to do core max or something where the move is similar but I have that support of the ball. the wheel doesn't seem to give me that support.

I have one and it does great things for the abs and back. You need be very strong in the upper body and back for in order to do this. As previously mentioned, if you have any lower back issues you probably need to stay away from this. Cathe does a modified version of this exercise using the stability ball in coremax, segment 2.

You can probably pick one up for cheaper at Gart's or Dicks sporting goods. I love mine.

As Jeanne Marie said, you can get a much cheaper price on these.

You can also do a very similar move using a barbell with small plates on as the roll-out device. This is done in some CIA workout by the Anderson sisters. It's pretty much the same move, but you can't do an angled roll for the obliques, just straight forward.

Cathe does a move with a stability ball in core max (fit-tv it's coremax 2) where she is on her knees ball in front of her hands on top of the ball (prayer style), then she rolls the ball away and rolls it back in. Sounds like this would be a very similar motion to what the ab roller is trying to accomplish. Those with more knowledge of Cathe and exercise in general may be able to comment on this.

I have an ab wheel and I never use it. It bothers my back way too much when I do the exercise. As the others have stated, I would much rather do roll outs on the stability ball where my back doesn't bother me at all. Anything that bothers my back that much "during the exercise" ...I just know can't be safe "for me." I just don't want to risk having any back problems in the future especially when there are so many other effective ab exercises that work really well without risk.

Just my humble thoughts,
Robin
