Cathlete
I haven't started the thread in a long time:) I'm not at work today

so just sipping my coffee before waking kids up for school. Hoping to get quite a few errands done today. This evening we have tickets to both the football and hockey games. I think ds's friends will take our football tickets (because they always lose and it's cold out;)) and we'll go to the season opener for the hockey. The company DH works for has a box and they often give free food to people in the boxes during the season opener.:D

Sorry I didn't get to post yesterday, I couldn't get on the 'puter as ds was on MSN all night with his friends doing a hockey pool as yesterday was the start of the NHL.

I'm finding the third phase of CLX quite challenging, my body is tired!

Rachael You'll have to remind us when that movie is out so we can go see your DH;) I can't imagine having asthma and living with a wood burning stove:confused: Your sister would probably be better off going to school. Sorry, I'm not much of a Halloween person and not good with costumes, have to help the kids make something yet. Did you get to sleep in this morning??

Jo That's interesting that Meso 2 was so hard. Maybe there was a point to all the endurance work in Meso 1. Did you see cathe's October rotation?? Do you get a lot of rain at this time of the year?

Cendrine When is ds's birthday? Birthday parties can be so much work! I'm always glad when they are over! The cool nights will be much nicer for sleeping for you! I still have the window in our bedroom open most nights but close it in the morning as it's cold! We did turn the heat on the other day. I've never been a big fan of circuits as I find it hard to transition from cardio to the weights makes me feel sick. I've spent lots of time this week meeting with a friend to plan her trip to Disneyworld in Florida. It's such a huge place and so confuisng for first timers.

So Sunday we'll start a thread for next week??

Chapter 8 : We Are Wired to Focus Attention on the Most Salient Stimuli

-eating and the desire to eat need to be understood as separate activities involving separate mechanisms in the brain.
-from the last chapter we learn that opioids give food its pleasure and help keep us eating
-another brain chemical, dopamine, motivates our behaviour and impels us toward food. Its strengthens our sense of anticipation and gets us to engage in a a complex set of behaviours so we can recapture the remembered pleasue of a favored food.

-dopamine drives desire through a survival -based capacity known as "attentional bias" Attentional bias gives rewarding food prominence in our minds, so we pay it greater attention and more vigorously pursue it.
-animal studies compare how hard animals with normal levels of dopamine will work to obtain food rewards, compared to those with depleted dopamine levels. Dopamine increases an animals' willingness to work for food which is important for survival. Because a part of suvival is being able to expend enough energy and be active enough to get food.
-The release of dopamine in the presence of a stimuli guides an animal to act with appropriate vigor to purse the reward.

-animals, humans included, seem to have a built-in preference for features larger than those that occur naturally. The "supernormal stimuli". Bird studies show that when presented with a choice between brooding its own small egg and the giant egg of a much larger bird, the birds invariably chose to sit on the giant one which would be biologially impossible for thm to have laid.
-supernormal stimulis foods would be energy dense from sugar and fat. Foods that are artificially created. Foods that are exaggerated and never seen in nature. Our animal tendency is to choose it over the natural food. He also compared this to why we choose places like Disneyland or Las Vegas for entertainment. We are naturally drawn to the supernormal/exaggerated stimuli

CONCLUSION The amount of sugar in food today goes beyond the level we could have experience naturally. Animal studies show that this makes us desire it more.

Good morning Kim and to all that follow!
It is a beautiful day and all is right with the world:D I just love this time of year. You to northerners are going to find this funny but we had a heck of a ~cold~ front come in last night and it is only going to get up to 81 today:rolleyes:! It is about 56 right now and the sun is shining and just great. Isn't it funny that we way down here in the south call that a cold front. I just could not imagine having my heat on in October. That would definitely be an anomoly! <--spelling:confused:

DH is walking funny and complaining of sore legs:p The sad part is, he just started p90x. He was supposed to do the plyo last night and he did not do it. So I gave him heck and tod him if I had ran all day the day before and my next wo was plyo I wouldn't sherk out of it:p But I probably would! Don't tell him that!

OK today was gym style- back shoulders and bis and it was a great wo. It is amazing to me how so far everyone of the weight workouts that I have done are so different. I will have to go into that later. DH is needing some assistance. BBL

Good Morning Sunshine Girls!!! :p
I woke up with energy to spend! I did Drill Max Scrambled Cardio Mix. I thought I would be challenged because of doing legs yesterday but it was invigorating! I'm feeling on top of the world!

Kim, yes, the rain has started and this is normal (also the temperture). We had an usually dry spell so it's welcome but I wasn't wanting the warm weather to end. No, I didn't look at Oct rotation yet but will go take a peek. I thought about it last night and I think part of my problem of being so challenged with Legs yesterday was having been inconsistent for the last 6 weeks (due to all my time off!). So I think next week will tell where I'm really at. Tomorrow I will be officially breaking in the tower with pull-ups and chin-ups for the first time so I'm excited for that!

Rachel, a COLD FRONT! Oh boy...you are a weather spoiled girl! :p However, you do suffer with the heat don't you and we don't have that. So everyone has their good and their bad. All the differences in Cathes weight workouts are amazing! Everytime she comes up with a new workout I would think how can she make something new and different, but she always does! I love all her workouts. Oh, your poor poor DOMS'd DH! You be sure and let him know it's a good thing!

Cendrine, hello to you when you check-in! I 'think' I am confirmed to come to SoCal in three weeks so I'll PM you about working out a place and time. I'm so excited to get to meet you!

BBL!

Hi Guys,

Step & Intervals for me today. I was totally in the warm-up so much that when the segment was over and she said ok now we are going to do three intervals, I went, what? that was still the warm-up? LOL! I will recover, I will I will....

I got ds' birthday cake baked and prepped the icing so now I just have to decorate it tomorrow and get the house set for the party. I will be glad when it is over. Ds' birthday is not until Monday, but most people really don't come to week day parties, so I chose tomorrow. It should be fun even though I always stress too much over it until it is over and then I think , well that wasn't so bad... Oh well...

Kim, I hope you got all done that you wanted to do today. It's funny that you mentioned in your summary about why we want to go to Disney world. Ever since our last day there I have been getting these flashes of memory of Disneyland and wanting to go back! So that's why! LOL

Rachel, funny how you told of dh and yet would probably have skipped plyo...LOL I get kind of tough on dh too, because he tends to be inconsitent, so then when he finally gets on it I try to keep him on it no matter what even though I know perfectly well that I have absolutely no power to keep him going and motvated... Funny how that goes.

Jo, I'm looking forward to meeting you too! Enjoy your tower workout tomorrow! I'm glad you feel so energetic! You must be getting back into the swing of things! so it took you how long after your break to get back? It seems you bounce back fast! I wonder if I will be back to normal next week... I hope so!

october rotation: I know I looked at it and I can't for the life of me remember what it looked like. Oh yea, undulating sts, right? I'll be swapping this one out for circuits for sure. It looks tough, something I might consider doing after my next STS round. when I'm nice and strong...LOL

OK I know I said I would be back but I had no idea it would take all day! We got very busy around here today. DH needed assistance with the new gate we built and from there we installed the old gate on the back of the yard. The new gate is so pretty it makes me want to redo the whole fence...Do yall get like that? Every time we do a project, I just want to do more and more. It is like an addiction.
So after that I grouted the bricks in front of our garden shed...which is only used for storage because I have a very black thumb:eek:, and we repaired some old fence post. Then it was a homemade steak dinner with baked sweet potato for me and roasted tomato salad. Yum!

Cendrine-I know exactly how you feel about stressing over parties. Normally I put to much pressure on myself by cooking something that I never have and then stressing about how it will turn out. Last week I stressed when I cooked for my brother even though I had cooked that meal a hundred times. I think I will always be this way. Your cakes always sound delicious along with all the other things you cook. I know it will be great.

Jo-I guess we do get a little luck with the weather as far as spring and fall go. Even a pretty mild winter for that matter. Growing up though, I always wanted a white christmas and never got one. I think I would still love a white christmas. Nothing bums me out more than a 60 or 70 degree christmas day. Congrats on the extra energy. I love those days. Sometimes I am surprised by them since normally I wake up and pretty much go right to working out.

Kim-I did get to sleep in a little today. I don't like to sleep in that much because I like to feel like I have plenty of time to work out and I do not like it to be going on 10am when I am done. Unless I have been working out for a couple of hrs which rarely happens. (if ever) You must be a big sports fan. I like to go to games but am not a fan of watching them on tv. Tonight is our towns Homecoming (do you have that) It might be a southern thing. The girls get these things called mums from there boyfriends which is basically a big fake mum with ribbons hanging from it and all sorts of other things. Of course the girls want the most adornments...It is a big deal esp. in this little town. Tomorrow there is a parade and an all day festival called western days. So anyway tonight is the big game if you know what I mean.

OK guys I think dh and I are gonna relax with a movie...Have a great night!

Rachel
