Maybe someone can help- confused b/w HIIT and interval training

What you are doing IS interval training. Nothing wrong with that, but it is not HIIT. Try doing 20 seconds or 30 seconds MAX going as HARD as you can. If you can go longer, then pick it up! Then rest for 40-60 seconds- again depending on how long you went for-and you should NEED the rest...

    cardio vs. weights

Honestly, only heavy lifting and a clean diet with lots of protein are going to reshape the body and build muslce. Remember, it's weights that reshape. Cardio can just make a smaller version of yourself- it will not reshape. In my opinion, you need to lift heavy and eat more protein...

    cardio vs. weights

Hi, You definitely want to keep up BOTH cardio and weights. Lifting heavy weights will help increase strength and muscle (depending on if you are eating clean and if you are eating enough) which is where the real benefits come in- weights really can change the way your body looks and...

Cathe - what is your opinion on "New Rules Of Lifting" type training?

RE: Cathe - what is your opinion on Hi, I just bought the book and enjoy it- straight and to the point that girls are capable of lifting "like a man" and not "toning". There needs to be MORE books like that. I do agree though that is not just one way of doing things and shocking the body...

    Pull Ups

Other things you can do are barbell or dumbell rows and deadlifts. Both are great for targeting muscles in the back.

    Pull Ups

Actually, pullovers work the chest primarily. The back does play a role, but it's mainly an exercise for the chest. Why not keep doing pull ups? It's one of the best exercises for the back.

How many classes per week for instructors to teach?

Thanks so much! I agree, 3-4 is a good number. There are times when I just want to do my own thing, but with teaching too much it can be tiring. I have lightened my load for the upcoming semester a lot so I can focus on my strength training. Thanks again for everyones input:-)

    Cathe, I'm totally confused now....

Just to give my two cents:) You are right in the fact that everyone's nutritional needs are going to be different. If you are training hard and heavy you will no doubt need carbohydrates, especially around the times you train for recovery. Protein is going to be based on your body size and...

How many classes per week for instructors to teach?

Hi Cathy, I do not think it matters which you do first, BUT more importantly, tt matters what your specific GOALS are. For example, if you are trying to gain muscle, I would lift first so you can put all of your energy into your lifts. With this in mind, you could follow with cardio or...

Cathe - weights and cardio on the same day - counterproductive?

Also, I like doing an upper lower split. For example: Monday: Heavy upper body and cardio Tuesday: Light lower body and cardio Wednesday: Off weights and just cardio Thursday: Light upper body and high intensity cardio (sprints on a treadmill for example) Friday: Heavy lower day and...
