    Runners: fueling long runs?

300 calories/hour is quite a bit higher than I've read. I think it depends on how long the run is and how much you weigh. Here's a RW article that suggest for 1-2 hour runs, you need 30-60 grams of carbs/hour which is 120-240 calories. As a woman weighing less, I would opt for the lower end...

    Ragnar Relay

Yes - I did the Madison/Chicago race last June. Shortly after that it was incorporated into Ragnar. BEST TIME EVER!! We had so much fun. We were all women and really just out to complete the race. It was a new experience for almost all of us, two had run Hood to Coast. Bring a massage stick...

    Runners: fueling long runs?

I keep a pouch of dried fruit with me and water. If it's a very hot day, I will switch to some diluted gatorade type drink. Anytime a run is longer than 90 minutes for me, I like to have a little bit of fruit every couple of miles.

    School fundraising ideas

My school gets a lot of success in selling gift cards. There's a program where you buy the gift card at face value and the business gives money back to the school. It's great because it is for a lot of stores you shop at normally so it's not like you even lose money when you buy them. For...

    Hunger Games and Age Appropriateness

My DD read hunger games in 7th grade (last year) and it was just on the edge of my comfort level for her. She LOVES to read and is very mature for her age. I think at 11 it may have been a bit too intense for her. Her Language Arts teacher recommended it to her in 7th grade - I don't think he...

What is the affect of the stuff in our food?

Just wanted to throw in one more comment - Jillian Michaels is podcasting again and her latest episode was an interview with an endochronologist who said - most people would benefit from a gluten free diet even if they are not allergic to wheat. Benefit being lose weight and bloat, less fatique...

    Cardio Coach-opinions?

You can use the workouts for any cardio equipment - he'll cue you to increase resistance and/or speed. You strive to get to levels of exertion that he describes by color (green, blue, orange, red) - which roughly equate to your HR zones. So you can use a HRM to achieve the proper level or just...

What is the affect of the stuff in our food?

My opinion...vegetable oils are not healthy. Olive, coconut, butter are better choices. Here's a link with some information...http://www.marksdailyapple.com/healthy-oils/ But in the interest of full disclosure - this site supports a paleo diet so there is going to be some bias.

    Cranky, carby & cry-y

Have you tried cutting carbs severely to avoid the ups and downs and try to level out your blood sugar/insulin? And when's the last time you had your blood work done? Could be all kinds of things: vit D, thryoid, b vitamins, hormones. Could be SADD. I was feeling the same way and went to...

    Chapped Lips?

My favorite lip balm is from the Gap. They have lots of flavors and it's made from natural oils with vitamin E and it's SPF18. Chapstick is petroleum based and I find it doesn't work well for me.
