new career path for a middle aged woman

I just wanted to recommend the book "Ambulance Girl" by Jane Stern. She and her husband Michael Stern wrote a bunch of travel/food books, Road Food, Good Food, and lots more, and had a bunch of radio shows and magazine columns about food. A few years ago she decided to be an EMT and did find...

    Remedy for falling asleep?

Moondrops - homeopathic mints. I have rare insomnia, my husband more of a frequent problem, and we both find these work like a charm. It's odd though because you don't feel drowsy, you lie in bed, let the mint melt in your mouth, think "this is not working I am WIDE awak", then boom you fall...

Hitting Rock Bottom or damn near close....

Just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you are going through all this at once, it sounds incredibly stressful! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, this horrible period of your life will get better and one by one everything will get resolved and the trauma of each thing will...

    Anyone heard of KAREN VOIGHT?

I think Nancy's phrase "correcting an imperfection" is a key phrase. I think for some women with smaller chests they do consider that to be an imperfection, I believe one of the posters on this thread said she thought of herself that way because her chest measurement was small. And some people...

    Anyone heard of KAREN VOIGHT?

I am puzzled why people would question her getting a boob job "at her age"? I am not criticizing these posters but I am just curious about that comment. Is it becaues women in their 40s and older are assumed not to care as much about their appearance? If she had gotten a boob job in her 20s...

    I Played My First . . .

Tricia, congratulations! I've been toying with the idea of taking up golf for a long time and your recommendation is pushing me closer. BTW, what IS the calorie burn for golf? That would be an extra incentive definitely...

    Nutella

I had a recipe for Nutella ice cream which I made and swooned over. So delicious!!! Then I had to put the open jar of it WAAAAAYYYY back in the back of the fridge so I would not just eat a spoonful every time I passed through the kitchen. Soon I found myself rooting around behind the pickles...

    is coffee bad for you?

In addition to the lowered risk of dementia, heavy coffee drinkers have a lower risk of diabetes and a dramatically lower risk of Parkinsons disease. I also recently read that coffee is the number one source of antioxidants in the typical America diet. (Which is guess is a sad commentary...)

    question about posture

Classical Stretch has helped me correct some of my slouching, it really stretches the bodyin the opposite direction. I dvr it off my public tv channel - it's a little hokey but the exercises are simple and they feel VERY uncomfortable to me, becuase my muscles are so unused to being stretched...

    What would you do?

Would it be possible to investigate living somewhere in the middle - somewhere civilized, where you would enjoy living? Then you could commute more like 1/2 hour to the new job, and would still be about an hour away from your dad? For me, personally, where I live is more important to me than...

Stress In A Marriage ~ Thoughts?

I also consider my marriage very strong but the exact thing happens to us. I am slightly anxious by nature, energetic, like to get things done, get things organized, "stay on top" of things. DH is more easygoing, does not tend to worry the way I do, is more relaxed. We love and admire these...

When to take the keys away

Janie 1234, I do not know how often they test and my info. could be wrong - but the clients who have had their licenses removed said they had to take driving tests and they seemed to be saying that after a certain age the driving tests were mandatory. I don't know this for certain though -...

    freaking out again

I agree, DO NOT GOOGLE. I am also a cyberchondriac who has been burned many times googling symptoms that panicked me, and the more I googled the more I panicked, and then of course the symptoms turned out to be harmless. I went to an anxiety forum once and read a study showing that internet...

When to take the keys away

I'm in California and here elderly drivers do have to be tested periodically, and the tests are hard. I work in an eldercare law practice, and a lot of our clients have their licenses revoked. There's an appeal process but it's tough. I just want to point out that not all elderly drivers...

Do you get insomnia and too much energy from working out?

That happens to me when I overtrain - even one very intense exercise session will do it for me. It also speeds up my resting pulse rate and kills my appetite for about 24 hours. It doesn't feel super-healthy to me so I try to do more moderate workouts.

How important do you think looks are to

I have a preference which is the opposite of Nancy's. I tend to prefer instructors who are NOT super lean, but are healthy and fit looking. Seeing the muscles is not crucial to me. I think this is because I am happiest and also very healthy at about a size 12, and so I like to see instructors...

Just to stir up a hornet's nest, what does everyone think about this?

I also agree with the law. My worst fear is dying helplessly, in horrible pain, hooked up to tubes, and having the agony prolonged and intensified. I would want to have the option to surround myself with those I love and drift off to sleep peacefully, and if I had a family member who was at...

    Unsupportive friends/family??

I know some of these comments (maybe a majority of them) are motivated by jealousy and a little hostility. But some of the comments could be intended as compliments ("How much MORE weight have you lost?" and "Is that your lunch? THAT's why your so thin!") It's hard to know how people intend...
