    Do I NEED interval training?

Today was my IMAX morning and I have to ask: Is there a good reason to do interval training? I understand the reasons behind cardio and weights, but I wonder how interval training fits in for the average person (not a competitive athlete) who wants to look like Cathe :-). I love/hate IMAX, and...

    vegetarian question

RE: Oh My! Hi! I'm not veganchick, but I have been a vegetarian for 13 years - I do eat dairy, but I'm not wild about it. Anyway, I find that I have energy to do Cathe's tapes, but I have a two year old, so sometimes that energy gets sucked up before my workouts! I do cardio in the early AM...

    Going on Vaca..need suggestions

Of course, you could look at this as a nice break. I think I heard (maybe on VF) that it's good to take a week off at least once a year. You could also just do some freeweight stuff in front of the tv (since you're driving you could bring dumbbells). When I recently visited my Mom's, I ended up...

Can you do anything besides Cathe?

I'm finding that I really can't! Her workouts are just so professional and well-done, and a proven product. She makes me wanna work - and DVDs are great. However, I feel myself caving and wanting some new workouts. I look over the CIAs and wonder if they are up to snuff - folks are kind of...

Cathe - Pls make a lower body FLOOR video

RE: Cathe's Rock Bottoms Until Cathe makes a floor legs video :-) here are a few that fry me every time (not including Pure Strength Legs): - Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout floor section - Firm Volume 1 and 2 floor sections - Buns of Steel 3. Yeah, it's old but effective. Rose

Weight of barbell w/out plates ?

Hi, I guess it could vary, but my six foot bar weighs about 15 lbs. I think I remember reading that the Ivanko, which Cathe uses in some videos, is about 10 lbs - but somebody correct me if I'm wrong! You could try getting on a scale with and without it and weighing it that way. Rose

Differences among PH, MIS and PS?

Please, folks, jump right in even if you aren't Cathe! I have found that I absolutely love MIS, and have already added a couple pounds to my barbell after two weeks (not much, but better than I was doing with PH). When I get my PS dvd, I'm going on a MIS/PS split rotation. My question is what...

Need a step for Cateh video....

The rubbermaid step/toolbox you are referring to is 13-14 inches high - not suitable for stepping. But it is useful for leg presses, and many folks me included use it in place of a Firm tallbox or fannylifter. I also use it in place of Cathe's mintopper in some of her videos. I got mine at Ace...

What happens when you have too many Cathes?

I know, it's blasphemy! I finally caved and will soon have all the DVDs, excluding those not ready yet but including ones I've not done before - Slow and Heavy and Pure Strength. I decided I'd rather not waste $20-25 here and there on iffy videos when I could go with a sure thing that I could...

    Look at my rotation, please?

I should have mentioned that I do MIS and PH during my daughter's afternoon nap, and cardio at the ungodly hour of 4:30 a.m. I like to keep cardio to 30-40 minutes, so I am thinking about getting CTX but that won't be for a while. To get a third weight day in, I split upper/lower body and do...

    Look at my rotation, please?

Hi, I am finally at a rotation that has some decent crosstraining (I'd step every day if I could) and would like some input. I want to lose about 10 more lbs. Sun - MIS Mon - step Tues - IMAX (owmax) or Intense Moves Wed - PH Thurs - free cardio/pure strength legs floorwork Fri - cardio...

    menopause any advice

I agree with those who said to get a checkup to see what's up. But, assuming it is the beginning of menopause, I think we are all doing the right things by eating right and exercising. I had a complete hysterectomy in October (at age 35) and did a lot of reading prior to that to prepare me for...

    Calorie Count Poll

I am finally keeping a food diary, since these last few pounds ain't coming off even with Cathe workouts. I have been clocking between 1300-1600 a day, with my diary accountability. I am not starving, but I have given up those snacks with my toddler :-). It really makes you look at what you're...

    Having trouble w/ VF forum?

I'm still having trouble with the forum. I get to the forum page, and all I see is the exchange forum, not the regular ones. I'm cookied and logged-in, but there are no regular forums for me. Anyone else? Rose

ab work while overweight- do it or skip it?

Bumping this for Cathe's response and to add a related question ... I have had five abdominal surgeries, and a friend who is a physical therapist said I'd had so many cuts into my abdominal wall that I'd have a hard time firming anything up. I have a noticeable "C-section pooch" as it's called...

    ANYBODY ELSE REALLY TIGHT??

While I've never been really flexible, I have noticed lately that things have been tightening up a little as well. I've especially noticed it in my back (not painful, just the instinct to stretch it more often). It doesn't help to have a two-year-old who readily goes down into a split like it's...

    Step Fit nearly conquered!

When I first previewed this in April, I said no way. Something got into me to try it and, with some minor modifications, I really like it! That is more a testament to Cathe's excellent instruction than me, but still I feel so good about it. The only ones left I haven't done are Step Works...

    Adding Wrist Weights

RE: wrist weights I have good luck adding donuts to my actual barbell. I have spinlocks, and these 1-lb. donuts fit over them quite snugly between the spinlock and the plate. They are advertised as walking weights (are a circle but have some stretch). Rose

    The birth of a video?

Hi Cathe! I was just wondering if you would explain how you decide to make a video and the timeline involved. How do you determine what type of workout to present, who will be in the video, how long does the choreography take, etc.? Do you do it in one take (ooh, a Cathe blooper tape!)? I guess...
