    Chinups in Week One

I just printed out workout cards for week one and realized there are some chinups and pullups in the first back workout. I don't have a bar, but I thought I read that STS didn't require any extra equipment from the usual Cathe workouts (except the squat rack, which was optional). So how are...

is some cardio also a leg workout?

It depends what you mean by "leg work." In terms of strength training, I'd say no because to develop strength and mass you need to overload the muscle (that is, add weight). I would think cardio work would provide endurance benefits to the leg muscles, but only until your body adapts to it...

Too many calories burned? Inaccurate HRM?

    I like Polar. I think they're around $100.

Too many calories burned? Inaccurate HRM?

I believe it. My HR monitor said I burned something like 370 cals doing GS Legs the other day - and that was around 35 minutes (standing only). And B&G's leg work gets my heart rate up more than GS's does.

    *Another* STS Preview Review

150 pushups? I'm guessing these are all broken up into several sets throughout the workout and not done together as in "Gym Styles." Yikes. In the first meso, how many sets do we do with each exercise? Do you do one body part at a time or do they switch around, like a superset?

    Low Back Exercises

In GS Back, Cathe does a lower back exercise where you have your upper body on the step and lift your legs up and down to work your lower back. I find this position really uncomfortable for my stomach, and if I position myself so that it doesn't bother my stomach then the lift really works my...

Hardcore Series: Gym Style Chest & Triceps

I struggled with doing full-body push ups, but I've decided to go back to the knees - at least for my GS rotation. Doing full body, I felt like I was working my core more than my pecs (not that my core doesn't need it, but that's a different subject). I get a nice burn in the right place doing...

Push & Pull lower body pre-mix

Wow! Jillybean, you have introduced me to a whole new world of information! I had no idea there were breakdowns on the site! The form pointers are amazing! So far all I've seen is the Push Pull premix breakdown, but I'm assuming there are more. How do you get to this section from the home page?

    STS - Twice a week?

Hi kariev - I stopped doing cardio last March because I had some knee problems and I was told by the doctor and PT to avoid the cardio work. The low impact work that didn't bother my knees also didn't get my heart rate up, so I just focused on weight lifting. I found that my weight loss...

    Acne Solutions?

I am breaking out a LOT lately. Does anyone have a quick fix for a zit? I tried putting some clay mask on the worst zits and leaving it there overnight, which resulted in my kids laughing at me, blue goop smeared on my pillow and no change in the zits. I started using salycilic (sp?) acid...

    MEAL PLAN??

Here's some more ideas: Egg Dishes: 1C Egg Beaters or other egg substitute with one Boca Burger patty crumbled up (190 cals, 37g protein), or instead of the patty put in a cup of vegetables (I like mushrooms and onions, maybe some diced peppers or tomatoes) (150 cals, 24g protein) or add...

    Rotations and Leg Work

I am doing a GS rotation, and I have legs scheduled for two times a week. There is no way I can do the whole leg workout through - I can do either the standing or the floor. My question: do I do the standing portion on each of my leg days, or do I do standing one day and floor the other...

    STS - Twice a week?

Yes, bunny, you make sense. I do think sometimes you get more out of a routine that you already know because you know exactly what weight to get, exactly where your sticking points are, and your concentration is better because you're not wondering what's going on or what's coming next. As...

    STS - Twice a week?

I'm sure someone has already asked this, but I couldn't find the thread. What about doing each STS workout 2 times a week (for a total of 6 days)? Would this increase the benefits, or would it not allow for enough recovery? I don't do cardio workouts, and I like to do something at least...

    GS Leg Premixes

I'm looking for a breakdown of the two premixes on GS Legs. There's two of them, both called "Timesavers" - one is around 30 minutes and the other is around 40 minutes. Has anyone broken these down, or seen a breakdown? I did the standing portion of GS Legs earlier this week, and today...

OBLIQUE EXERCISES AND THICKENING OF THE WAIST!!??

I'm hoping Cathe sees this, as she uses weights in some oblique exercises, so I'm sure she has some information on this. It certainly seems logical to assume that the oblique muscles would grow if you're using resistance, just like any other muscle.

    Finding A Check-In

I was thinking about joining a check-in, but I don't know how to figure out the "theme" (can't think of a better word for it) of the different ones. Can anyone tell me what the focus or workout style or whatever other common thread runs through some of the various check-ins? (In other words...
