    deadlifts

Have you tried an alternating grip where one hand holds the bar overhand and the other holds the bar underhand? This has helped me a lot. I've read others use straps to hold the barbell.

    Forearm endurance question

Not Cathe - hope you don't mind my posting but I had lots of problems with forearm endurance in deadlifts and found alternating my grip helps a lot (one hand under, one hand over). This assumes you use a barbell.

    Disc 13: Rear Delts

I'm confused about the form on the Seated Rear Delts for Disc 13. Are the arms supposed to come straight out to the side (so they are roughly in line with the shoulders), or are we supposed to be pulling back (so the weights end up more in line with the lats)? Since it's a rear delt exercise...

    GREAT JUMPIN JEHOSAPHAT!!!!!!

I've noticed more lower back pain with STS, and I'm pretty sure it's the deadlifts. Nothing in my experience works the lower back the way deadlifts do, so it kind of freaked me out to feel DOMS there. Usually if I feel discomfort in my lower back I figure I'm getting close to my period or...

How in the world do you do a.....

I would have guessed a lat row - that explains "bent over" and "lat pull" (a "pull" could be a "row"). But the "straight arm" part only makes sense if it's a fly motion like Kathryn said (since you can't row without bending your arms). I've never thought of this as a lat exercise though - more...

    Big Butt Wanted!!

3 sets of 10-12 reps at a weight where you can just barely squeak out the last couple of reps. If you can't even manage 8 good reps each set, lighten the weight. If you get to 12 on each set without struggling, you need to go heavier. And keep increasing the weight every couple of weeks or...

How to stop my gossipy friend?

I was the subject of gossip myself, in a really hurtful way. It forced me to realize how I'd hurt other people with my own gossip. I wish I could have learned my lesson some other way, but at least I learned it. ETA: My son said this morning that someone told him a guy in his class was...

How to stop my gossipy friend?

I was a terrible gossip for most of my life. I did not respect people's boundaries about their personal information because I didn't have any for my own. When I shared info about my friends like you say your friend is now doing, I did it because it made me feel important and special. I once...

How heavy dumbbells do you need?

I remember years ago when I bought my 15# DBs - I thought they were enormous and when I picked them up I felt like I was going to tip over or my arm was going to pull completely out of its socket. Now they seem pretty light. My new 30# DBs, however, scare me. I just keep reminding myself...

    uses for weighted vests

I think the vest is mainly used for leg work. You could also use it during pushups or pullup/chinups. But I can't think of anything else. I don't know how you would use it for back work (other than pullups/chinups) since back exercises don't depend on body weight.

    Comparing Static to Moving Lunges

Is there some benefit to moving the leg for each lunge? I feel static lunges more strongly than "moving" lunges, and am able to use better form. So I'd like to substitute static lunges for front lunges, but was wondering if I'd be missing out on something by doing so. Anyone?

    Big Butt Wanted!!

As a fellow member of the flat butt club, I want to second the previous suggestion of heavy squats. You want to make the glute muscle bigger, and - as you probably know - the only way to make a muscle bigger is to lift challenging weight. Make sure you take your squat low enough to really feel...

Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle

I was wondering the same thing - I have a hardcover book of his called the 5 something or other. I remember thinking it was a pretty good book in that it addressed some of the mental challenges of weight loss - like accepting that it was going to require some sacrifice and take time, setting...

Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle

So what's the bottom line with this plan? Is it something we haven't heard before? I feel like I've been reading the same 3 or 4 diet plans over and over again for the last few years, just packaged differently and by different authors.

    STS Check in Disc 8

Just wanted to say that of the discs I've done so far, this is my favorite. I really love the exercises and the sequencing.

    STS Check In Disc 7....

Cathe - Why did you go with pushups in Meso 1 and bench presses in Mesos 2 and 3? Was it for variety, or do you think pushups are better than presses for the pecs in terms of endurance goals?

    substitute exercise for chin ups

I'm doing the lat pulldowns with the band. I think that's a good exercise, and it hits the lats from a different angle than rows. I'm really disappointed about not being able to do chin-ups and pull-ups. If our house wasn't on the market, I'd put in a chin-up bar in a second.

    The Wave

I think the instructor who started her own studio is Nancy - the site is bodyfitcolumbia.com. The guy who was married to Anna Benson and was one of the 3 original founders of the Firm posts there sometimes (I think his name is Mark). I am really sad that they split up, as I think they made a...

    Discipling other peoples kids?

I agree with the previous posters that your BIL may have thought he was helping you out. Gogigi asked the critical question - is this the norm with your BIL or was it unusual? I'm guessing it's unusual, in which case I would definitely keep this in mind when talking to him. I've mildly...

    I'm aggravated

Just wanted to say that I bought the door attachment from Amazon, and it works fine. I'm not crazy about the tubing option for pull-ups/chin-ups (it's not hard enough) but it's better than nothing.
