    BEGINNERS

Dittos. I don't have a step. In the household is a small kitchen stool about 1 foot high which I use for the Legs and Glutes segment on Kick Punch and Crunch. To the extent I do any step work, I just do them without a step and can still get myself huffing and puffing. Some of the work outs...

    Over training

Not Cathe here. If you are losing defintion, perhaps either (1) you are gaining weight so the muscle is being obscured or (2) the muscle mass is decreasing. Suggest you review your diet. Re. (1), Perhaps the increased exercise load is causing you to eat too much of the wrong...

    BEGINNERS

Here are a few things I wish someone had told me when I started exercising regularly. Other people, please feel free to add anything that would have helped you or might help new beginners. (1) Cathe and the people in her DVDs have probably been exercising for years. Don't get hung up on...

    Hands fatigue during deadlifts

Re. wrist curls, go to Bodybuilding.com. Click on supersite (not the store). In the search, type in "exercise guides" then search. That's the section that shows you how to do various exercises. Wrist curls are in the section on forearms. They refer to reverse wrist curls as palms down wrist...

    Hands fatigue during deadlifts

Not Cathe here: Have been doing Cathe DVDs for a while and like them a lot. Whenever I do a Cathe work with bicep work, curls, etc., after she finishes each set of curls, I pause the DVD and do one set of wrist curls and one set of reverse wrist curls. I try to do at least two sets of each...

    number of sets

Not Cathe here: DVDs are great. It is easy to add sets to Cathe programs. After she does one set of whatever, hit the pause button, then hit the button that goes back to the beginning of the chapter. She'll start the exercise again, and now you are doing your second set. You can do this...

    Injured and miserable

Not Cathe here. Ouch. Injuries are really annoying. If you have access to a pool, swimming is good aerobic exercise - just don't kick. Do crawl and just let your legs follow along. A number of Cathe's upper body weight work outs involve exercises where you sit or lie down. You can...

can you use dumbells instead of a barbell?

Not cathe here. Great thing about dumbbells is no time spent in changing the weights, just grab what you need. I just use dumbbells.

KICK PUNCH CRUNCH/LEGS GLUTES - DVD

Cathe: In the legs and glutes section, there are two series of what I think you call "Drop Squats." One foot on the stool, then drop sideways onto the other foot, plie down, then move up to two feet on stool, etc. The first series is just up and down. The second series adds a lateral leg...

    Kick Max Leg Conditioning!

When a DVD wipes you out, it is probably just what you need. But don't feel you have to do the whole thing. Try doing every other rep. So when Cathe kicks 8 times, you kick on counts 1, 3, 5, 7. This way you work up to it gradually without beating yourself up too much.

    Hardest leg workout?

You can make a work out harder by doing more reps. E.G., on Legs and Glutes Cathe does two sets of calf raises (separated by other exercises). After you finish her set, hit your DVD controller to go back to repeat that calf raise chapter. Then do a second set but this time do it double time...

    chissle look

Just realized that my above post gives the inaccurate impression that muscle building exercise builds muscle but does not burn fat also. This is not so. Muscle building exercise burns cals, both during the exercise itself and afterwards when the muscle fiber that was exercised is being rebuilt...

    Those of us 40+...

I am mid 50s. Exercise is great for body, mind, and mood. The biggest difference between now and teens/20s is flexibility and recovery time. But consistent exercise improves both my strength and endurance from what it was previously. I do my best to avoid injury, since injury keeps me from...

    chissle look

Not Cathe here. An article on abs that I read mentioned that six pack (i.e. chiseled) abs require two things, (1) good muscles, and (2) thin skin (i.e. minimal subcutaneous fat) over them. So it sounds like the other posters who recommend a combination of muscle building (to enlarge the...

    Pyramid Up or Down?

I always like to start by going up, because starting with lower weight helps warm up the muscle. Sometimes on a second or third set I will go down if the weight is too heavy. But always my first set is a weight that I can do comfortably so there is no stress strain or risk of pulling anything.

    Peanut butter

Not Cathe here. Does anyone besides me find it funny how many posts there are about peanut butter on a website devoted to exercise? Besides giving us more of an excuse to eat them, I think regular exercise makes the foods we enjoy taste even better. Imagine how many posts there would be if...

    Muscle Max band question

Not Cathe here. I do not have a band. Just use dumbbells. Easy to control since you always know the exact weight and the grip/motion always is the same. Also, you can increase the weight as you strengthen. The band does provide variety, however.

    New Attitude~ Advice Please

I am a parent, not an educator. Here are several reactions, obviously not a complete take on the situation. (1) you are first and foremost an educator. you were trained to educate. a lot of parents are business people. they are trained to get what they want. In the business world, this...

How long are your daily workouts?

Today, a weekend, about 1 1/2 hrs. Did upper body weights, kickboxing for cardio, and an ab work out. Tomorrow will do lower body weights and cardio if I feel energetic. During the week, about 50 minutes. Typically do upper body weights, lower body weight, or cardio (kickboxing or, in warm...
