My Success Story
At the turn of 2008, I found myself 30+ pounds overweight. When my father was diagnosed with adult onset diabetes, I knew it was only a matter of time until I, too, would be hearing that diagnosis unless I made some changes. My family clearly has issues with food. I was raised hearing that "wasting food is a sin," and I've never met a sweet I did not love. I guess my father's diagnosis finally woke me up. I signed up with MyFoodDiary.com and began tracking my calorie intake. I started adding in exercise, waking up an extra hour and a half early to do it before my family woke up. A year and a half later and 30 pounds lighter, I am proud to say that I am still logging in my food, trying to watch what I eat, and getting up early to exercise 6 days a week. Last week, I ran 5 miles for the first time in my life. Success? So far. But I am self-aware enough to know this is a lifetime battle and that I have only just begun the fight.
