feeling there is no use in trying

Dear Laura, 1. Keep on exercising 2. Eat clean (high protein and moderate carbs) If you follow these simple rules there will be no way you are going to be overweight. Sometimes we are slaves to the scale. Don't be. Maybe your extra weight is due to your muscles. Gauge yourself by your...

    Lifting weights and hunger

That's funny. Three months ago I weighed at 116lb, and now I am 124lbs. I didn't change my diet. The only thing I did change was that I lifted heavy weights in the 4-6 rep per set range (one body part per week), decrease my cardio to 3x a week, and increased my protein intake. If anything I got...

    Overcoming the Inertia

Thanks Clare! I needed that :) I guess I worked myself too hard, that when I got my migraine I just felt wanted to take a break and give my overworked body a well deserved rest. Yeah, I guess you're right: I'll probably come around realizing I need to discipline myself to achieve my fitness...

    Overcoming the Inertia

Hello all, Have you all been on a week long break from cardio or strength training, and find it hard to overcome the inertia to get yourselves back on track? I suffered from a horrible migraine attack early last week that went on for a couple of days. I decided to take a break from all...

    Bicep Curls.. dumbbells vs barbell

It could be because with barbells, your stronger bicep (in the left or right arm) are working hard to compensate for your weaker bicep (in the other arm) to lift the bar. With dumbbells, each bicep is worked individually.

    Does anyone have curly hair?????

Hi Lori, I have battled my curly hair all my life. Wasted lots of money on anti-frizz and straightening creams. I even paid for expensive Japanese straightening treatments a few years ago. My hair looked great for a while, but the cost of maintaining it was pulling me under. Then of course...

    Lifting weights and hunger

The reason for the hunger is the increase of metabolism. Lifting weights builds muscles. In order to survive and grow, muscles need lots of fuel. A pound of muscle burns up to 50 extra calories per day just to sustain itself. Just imagine if you have 8lb of lean muscle mass. That's a whopping...

    I just don't get it...

Hello Amy, Forget about the scale! Think about the fit of your clothes. Are they getting tighter or looser? I, too, was at the doctor's office yesterday (I suffered from a migraine attack, ughh). The nursed weighed me, and guess what, at 5'2" I am at 124lb! The last time I weighed myself...

    Slimmer Thighs -- Woo Hoo!!

Hello Candi, The heaviest I went was 45lbs. I am capable of squatting heavier than that, but it's just that I cannot lift a 50lb barbell over my shoulders x( . I cannot rely on my husband to be my spotter (he'd make some jokes or worse he'd cop a feel when I squat, then I'd crack up and lose...

What is your favorite Christi Taylor video?

If you want value for your money, then you should get her Fantastic Four dvd which contains 4 of her workouts. Personally, I love Still Jumpin'. While Christi herself is an excellent instructor, I don't really care much for one of her background exerciser, Theresa. It's like she's trying to...

    Slimmer Thighs -- Woo Hoo!!

I think everyone has their own range of weights that they regard as heavy. Basically, I consider heavy weights to be the ones that push the muscles to failure after 8-10 reps. 'Failure' means that I cannot possibly eke out another rep until I get a minute of rest before proceeding to the next set.

Need help to furnish new workout space

Hello all, I will be moving to a new home next month. There is a lounge area in my new home where I will use to work out. I'm really excited because the area is spacious compared to my current home. I have lots of equipment to store (dumbbells, barbell, step platform, stability ball, tv, dvd...

    Very frustrated!

Hello Lynne, I'm a pear shape, so I can relate to what you are saying when it comes to seeing definition in the upper body easily as opposed to the lower body. Are you using weights heavy enough to challenge your glutes and hamstrings, until the muscles quiver and tremble during the last few...
